The Loiret region, and more specifically the Giennois, offers many opportunities because of its location at the crossroads of different regions (Berry, Puisaye, Sancerrois). But it also has a
rich natural environment of forests, canals and the river Loire.
Some of the routes you can take are detailed below.
L'Echappée Belle B&B is an ideal base, situated on the edge of a number of hiking trails and the Loire by Bike route. So all you have to do is
leave the house to take the countryside paths, those along the Loire, the canals or those through the forest.
Here is a selection of trails to help you discover the diversity of the surrounding area.
There are two types of easy hike: those starting from L'Echappée Belle and those with a different starting point but which are well-known in the region.
Easy walks starting from L'Echappée Belle in Saint Brisson/Loire
From L'Échappée Belle guest house, this "Echap'pied" allows you to walk along the banks of the Loire and visit the village of Saint Brisson sur Loire and its castle. And if you wish, you can take
a break for a drink or meal in the village.
The Plaisance trail is very close to L'Echappée Belle B&B (Les Riaux, green star on the map).
It is reached by a small footpath and allows you to wander through the countryside:
Leaving the path leading to L'Echappée Belle, cross the road to take the path opposite. Then take the first path on the right that leads to the River Ocre, which you cross by the bridge. Walk
alongside a field and climb a hundred metres or so to reach the crossroads of the footpath with the signposts.
Similar to the previous country path, but a little longer and starting directly from L'Échappée Belle B&B access road.
Easy walks along the Loire
12 km from L'Echappée Belle B&B is the village of Châtillon sur Loire, home to two remarkable sites. The first is the Mantelot lock, which you
will pass through on your way to the second site: l'île à Gaston. This island in the Loire is remarkable for its unspoilt nature and its wildlife, including around a hundred varieties of bird.
The route is remarkable not only for the site of Guilly (a former bargemen's village, brickworks and windmill), but also for its view of the Loire meander, a typical landscape that has earned it
UNESCO status, and of the Abbey of Saint Benoît sur Loire on the other side of the river.
Easy walks in the Orléans or Sologne forests
One of the most beautiful walks in the Loiret.
Starting at the crossroads of the Resistance in the Lorris massif, you'll discover some of the history of the resistance and the fountains of this former royal forest. L'Echappée Belle B&B can provide you with a booklet explaining this walk.
The Etang du Puits is the largest in Sologne. Artificial, it has a surface area of 180 hectares.
A sensitive natural area, it is also a great place to relax after a hike, with its leisure centre.
Easy walks along the canals
Discover the Orléans canal and its ponds in the heart of the Orléans forest. A superb walk for nature lovers.
25 minutes from L'Echappée Belle B&B, a beautiful walk that allows you to discover the history of the Briare canal and a curiosity: a
"staircase" of 7 locks that made it possible to cross a hill.
Discover the "canal without head or tail", which does not join any river and was built in the 19th century to transport fertiliser. This trail follows part of the Sente Bleue, which runs
alongside the Sauldre canal from Blancafort to Romorantin.
